History

This prayer group has been meeting almost continuously at St. John Berchmans Church since September 1967. It was formed as a result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in February of that year. A Jesuit priest at St. John’s, Fr. Romagosa, heard about it and went to Notre Dame University where this new outpouring had been introduced. Fr. Romagosa came back to Shreveport and started a prayer group. It was called St. John’s Prayer Group.

In 1978, the St. John’s Prayer Group merged with the Children of Light Prayer Group of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and began meeting in the Parish Hall in the school next door to the church. There was a two year period when we met at St. Theresa Parish. When St. Theresa’s closed, Msgr. Earl Provenza, who had just become pastor, invited us to come back to the Cathedral. We have been here since. Thanks be to God.
